Job Title: Fabrication Engineer (salary – $100k to $120k, DOE)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced metals Fabrication Engineer to join our team. The Fabrication Engineer supports the design, development, and improvement of metal fabrication processes in a dynamic job shop environment. This role bridges the gap between engineering design and production execution, ensuring that parts and assemblies are manufacturable, cost-effective, and delivered to customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Engineering Support:
- Interpret and evaluate customer drawings, CAD files, and specifications to ensure feasibility and manufacturability.
- Create and/or refine 3D models, flat patterns, and detailed fabrication drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Select materials, tooling, and manufacturing methods to optimize quality, cost, and lead times.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Process Development & Improvement:
- Develop and document fabrication processes, work instructions, and routing steps for production.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including lean manufacturing and root cause analysis.
- Recommend process improvements, tooling enhancements, and equipment upgrades based on shop feedback and industry best practices.
- Production Support:
- Collaborate with estimators, drafters, welders, machinists, and project engineers to troubleshoot production issues.
- Assist in programming CNC equipment (e.g., press brakes, laser cutters, plasma, waterjet) and validate setups.
- Provide technical guidance on fabrication methods during project planning and execution.
- Quoting & Estimating Support:
- Support quoting and estimating by providing technical input and identifying process requirements or potential challenges.
- Work with estimators to ensure accurate costing based on fabrication methods and material requirements.
- Data & Files Management:
- Maintain organized CAD file structures and drawing revision histories in accordance with company standards.
- Manage part libraries, templates, and shared engineering resources.
- Ensure proper version control and secure storage of all engineering data using PDM (Product Data Management) tools or file management systems.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in metals fabrication, metalworking, or job shop environment; specifically Machining, Welding, Forming, Plate, Bar, Stainless, Carbon, Alloy Materials
- Proficiency in CAD software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ERP systems). Experience with SolidWorks, PDM, JobBoss, and Paperless Parts a plus.
- In depth knowledge and experience in traditional & advanced techniques and processes of metals fabrication.
- Knowledge of metals testing and services; Anodize, Paint, PMI, Weld NDE, Pressure Test, etc.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
