First impressions always count and having a brilliant CV is exactly what’s going to help you make a good impression from the very first moment that an employer sees your resume. No matter what the position is, it is crucial to have a CV which represent you and your work history accurately.

Why is it so important to write your CV carefully?

The contents of your resume are not the only things that will determine the success of your applications. There is a variety of details that can create a certain image of you that will either help or harm you. It’s important to take a close look at those details because CV is used to make the very first impression and selection, without diving deeper into your qualifications and abilities.

Why employers prefer CVs

It is the quickest way for an employer to make a decision about you. By looking at the effort that was put into preparing a CV, the employer will get an idea if you’re worth contacting. It takes the employer seconds to make up his mind about you because a badly written CV automatically makes you an undesirable candidate.

That’s why it’s very important to really think about all of these details before you start sending out your CV.

  • Keep it to 1-2 pages. Remember that it’s not a novel you’re writing. When you talk about your qualifications and job experience, try to be informative but keep it brief at the same time.
  • Spelling mistakes. Make sure you use correct grammar in your CV. Even more, let somebody else read your CV to spot any other mistakes related to language use, punctuation and appropriate vocabulary.
  • Tailor your CV. You might want to change up your CV contents a little bit, based on the position and company you’re applying to. This way, by matching your skills to this specific job, you will stand out as a more suitable candidate.
  • Equal formatting and margins. Using traditional fonts and text sizes will make your CV look appealing and easy to read. Pay attention to formatting, sections, paragraph lengths.
  • Be relevant and professional. Sometimes job seekers are tempted to add unnecessary information to their CV to make it look fuller and more informative, yet you should avoid sharing too much personal life details or a whole paragraph about your computer skills.
  • Don’t exaggerate. You should avoid inventing information and details concerning your work or education history: such lies eventually come out so make sure your CV represents you without any false facts.
